This plant/cultivar has been awarded the RHS Award of Merit because it has proved to be reliable in appropriate conditions and a good performing plant.
Pyramidal habit, becoming wider at the base with age. Foliage golden-yellow, turning coppery-orange in Winter and retained year round. Use as a specimen or for growing in large containers for patio or terrace use. Can be used as a semi-formal hedge if planted 80cm (2ft 6in) apart in a single line.
Suitable for: Full sun on all but very wet or dry soils. Hardy.
Height & Spread in 10 years:
1m x 1.2m (3ft x 4ft) at the base. Will continue to grow larger.
Planting: Soak the rootball before planting. Plant in a hole twice the diameter of the rootball or pot. Mix an organice soil improver and general fertiliser with the infill soil. Water regularly until established.
Care: Do not allow to dry out in drought conditions. Remove snow from foliage as soon as possible to prevent spreading of branches. Lightly trim with a sharp knife in Spring to improve shape. If used for a hedging trim in mid summer.
