Pieris japonica
Compact, rounded shrub with narrowly obovate to elliptic, toothed, glossy, mid-green leaves, to 9cm (3½ in) long. White flowers are produced in pendent or semi-erect, terminal panicles, to 15cm (6in) long, clustered at the tips of the shoots, in late winter and spring.
'Purity' is compact, and produces white flowers in upright panicles, and pale green leaves when young.
Cultivation : Grow in moderately fertile, humus-rich, moist but well-drained, acid soil in full sun or light shade. In frost-prone areas, shelter from cold, drying winds.
